General characteristics of the major

Computer Science and Engineering is a broad major related to information processing, software development, and the design and operation of computing systems. This major includes both theoretical and practical aspects, covering a wide range of knowledge, from the fundamentals of computer science and programming to the hardware implementation of computing devices.

A bachelor’s degree student in this program develops the following competencies for future professional careers:

  • The study of algorithms and data structures for effective software development.
  • Software development. Creation of software for various purposes (development of applications, websites, databases, and data management systems).
  • Database principles, design, optimization, and data security.
  • Study of the principles of building, configuring, and maintaining computer networks (network protocols, network architecture, network security).
  • Study of computer architecture, organization, and management of computing resources.
  • Study of methods and technologies for systems analysis and information system design.
  • Study of modern artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies and their practical application.
  • Study of methods for protecting information and preventing cyberattacks.

Computer science and computer engineering specialists can work in various fields, such as software development, system administration, data analysis, artificial intelligence research, and many others.

The rapid development of computing technology has facilitated the integration of information systems and technologies into all areas of human activity. IT (information technology) specialist professions are becoming increasingly in demand across all spheres of human activity and are among the top professions in the world. A Bachelor’s degree student in this program prepares for the following professional activities:

  • Systems analysis of the subject area of ​​information systems implementation;
  • Technical and detailed design of an information system;

  • Development, approval, and production of all types of design documentation.
  • Design and technology:

 

* Design of basic and applied information technologies;

  • Development of mathematical, algorithmic, and software tools for implementing information technologies;

  • Development and implementation of technologies for developing objects of professional activity in the fields of science, engineering, education, medicine, administrative management, law, business, entrepreneurship, commerce, management, banking systems, information system security, geographic information systems, ecology, the service sector, mass media systems, design, the media industry, as well as enterprises of various profiles and all types of activities in the information society economy.

 

* Organizational and managerial:

  • Organization of workplaces, their technical equipment, placement of computer equipment;
  • Organizing quality control of input information.

* Installation and commissioning:

  • Installation, debugging of software, and configuration of hardware for commissioning information systems for trial operation;
  • Assembly of software systems from prefabricated components; Installation, debugging of software, and configuration of hardware for commissioning information systems for commercial operation;
  • Testing and commissioning of information systems;
  • Participation in testing and commissioning of information systems and their components.

* Service and operational:

  • Maintaining the functionality and support of information systems and technologies to meet specified functional characteristics and quality criteria;
